Best Buy Geek Squad Black Tie Protection Plan

"The preventative maintenance checks are limited to projection televisions"

Both the standard and premium plans have the same set of terms and conditions documents with the extra coverages of the premium plan spelled out. The premium plan "provides for preventative maintenance, telephone trouble shooting and recalibration The preventative maintenance checks are limited to projection televisions and are recommended but not limited to one per year... at the location of your television." Not much to it.

Many are under a false assumption that Best Buys plans are different from others in that they replace the product the minute you bring it back. That's not the case with TVs. In fact the contract is very much like the others with a buyout clause, and a strict limitation clause. The premium plan does not cancel out these clauses.

"Best Buys plans are termed for 2 and 4 years instead of 3 or 5 years"

One other important note concerning Best Buys plans is that they are termed for 2 and 4 years instead of 3 or 5 years. One would think that this means 2 years or 4 years after the end of the manufacturer's warranty, but this is not the case. The protection plan runs concurrent with the manufacturer's warranty and, "parts and services covered during the manufacturer's warranty period are the responsibility of the manufacturer and are not covered under this Plan." This means that a 2 year warranty gives you only 1 extra year of warranty protection or a 4 year plan gives you only 3 extra years.
