- Are the speakers removable on the Panasonic TH-42PD25U/P? My concern is the width as I will be placing the plasma in a TV armoire. If they are not and add 5 plus inches to the width I will go with the non consumer model. Thanks
- I want to know if this new model (TH-42PWD7UY ) come with the closed captioned built in?
- In an earlier posting, you noted that Panasonic Plasmas (interested in 42" ED or HD set) were only warranted in the U.S. I'm in the navy serving overseas. I have a U.S. (FPO) address. Would the warranty be valid for me?
- I have a Panasonic TH-50PHD6UY plasma screen. Panasonic recently came out with a plug-in HDMI input, the TY-FB7HM. Panasonic lists this as being for its 7th generation professional serries (I assume my plasma is a 6th generation). Would the TY-FB7HM be compatible with my screen? If not, is there an HDMI input device that would be?
- I live in the UK and am considering buying either a Panasonic TH42PE30B or a Pioneer PDP435FDE. Can you help me make sense of 2 of the specs? The Panasonic has brightness of 500 cd/m and contrast ratio 4000:1, while the Pioneer has 1100 cd/m and 1200:1. Based on these 2 parameters, which is better? Will the difference be visible in day to day viewing?
- hi. wonderful site. everything i learned about plasma, i learned from you guys. just one question, for panasonic plasmas eg. 42pwd7uy, how do i find out the number of hours a unit has been used? is there a specific procedure? am planning to get a store display unit and i want to know how long they've had it on display. hope you can help.thanks.
- I got a TH-42PWD7UY last summer, based on the excellent info here, by mail order (no local dealer) and everything was great until I also got Dish Network and programmed their remote to turn the display ON/OFF. Now the Panasonic won't respond to it's own remote commands with the directional arrows to adjust menu items. And the only way to get menus to stay on screen is to use the buttons on the screen frame.I can step through the menus vertically and change items with the buttons on the frame but nothing on the menus can be adjusted left/right by either the remote or buttons on the frame. Any way I can reset the electronics or??? There is n o local dealer and the nearest service center is almost 75 miles away so a sevice call would be big $$ and I'd like to avoid that if possible. Hope you'll have clues for this.

The speakers are not removable on the TH-42PD25UP. The optional speakers for the commercial models add about 8" to the total width of the screen.

The commercial Panasonic model plasmas do not offer closed captioning.

Panasonic is a Worldwide Company. Certain models are designed for specific countries only. You would need to purchase a model designed for sale in the country you are in to have warranty service honored in that country.

The HDMI is only compatible with the 7UY models. You would need to use the DVI board with an HDMI to DVI adaptor to connect an HDMI source.

In general, the Panasonic will have a better dynamic black level while the Pioneer will be brighter. I tend to find the Pioneers to have a slighter sharper picture. It is up to you to determine what you seek more in picture quality.

I am not familiar with accessing the service menus to determine panel usage. You may be able to contact and ISF technician that can provide you with some inside information.

Interesting. I have not heard of this before. My only suggestion is to contact Panasonic's Technical Support.
