- Great website! Want to buy the TH-37PA20U/P but you (and really everyone else) only comment on the 42" version. Is it safe to assume the performance will be the same on the 37 as on the 42? Seems features/specs are the same except the pixel pitch on the 37" is .96mm vs 1.08mm on the 42". Also, none of the reputable online dealers mentioned on this site seem to carry this model. Any thoughts on where to find it?
- Hi. First thank you for answering. I have a Panasonic TH42PWD6. In scenes with contrasting light and dark, I can see solarization (is that the term for not smooth gradient)? Is it defective, or do I just need to adjust its settings? I see it in both my DirecTV and DVD's. Sometimes it shows up as "blotchy" face or forehead. Thank you.
- I have read that the Sanyo PDP-42WV1AS is basicaly the same as Panosonic TH-42PWD6UY. Is this true and is there anywhere I can find what brands are related or who's componets they use? Thank's your site is very helpful keep it up!
- I was told the new JVC plasma was manufactured by Panasonic and shared the same contrast levels and black levels. I like the separate component box on the JVC but love the picture on the Panasonic. JVC plasma has not been reviewed by anyone. Do you plan on reviewing them? Can you confirm that Panasonic manufactures the JVC and has a similar quality? Thank You!
- I have a 42" panasonic plasma EDTV TH-42PDW6UY.I am of course using the horz.postioning feature to slightly shrink the screen when watching DTV from satelite dish.I have aspect ratio on "just" and than srink horz.to try and diminish streching. My problem is on the right side if I stretch too much it shows a black band, only about an inch wide, and than a sliver next to it, of the actual picture that is on the screen. The black band is also does not have a crisp line..on the picture side. it is somewhat fuzzy.I would like to be able to squeeze broadcast signal a bit more than what this distrating black band and sliver of picture allows..it is very distracting..even when I have it set to not see just the black band..at some point it will re-appear..could this have somthing to do with the wobble feature? Do I need to do something with the horz.left to right feature to get rid of this distraction? Hope you can help. Thanks
- The Panasonic reviews in your site and others are always fantastick and by the reviews equal or outperform even the most expensive units. The Panasonic units are always on display in stores but the picture is always outdone by competitors side by side in stores. I am a digital photo editing fanatik so my eye is pretty tuned for comparisons. Are we to assume that the Panasonic units have not been tuned as well as the more expensive competitors. I would love nothing more than to save a few thousand. Can you comment on the apparent disparity between your reviews and the side by side I am observing in stores?
- Greetings from the UK. I have a TH-42PWD6 Connected via S-Video to a Sky+ Satalite receiver and Marantz DV4100 OSE DVD Player. The picture from either is stunning except I see some colour (color in US!) banding where an area of the screen gradually changes. Is this because the Plasma cannot display all of the subtle colours required or is it something to do with the MPEG compression used to convey the image?
- Great Site!! I've been saving for the Panasonic, but your review of the new JVC's are enticing. How would you compare their 42" EDTV units from a display standpoint? I'm concerned that the JVC is 1st Generation? THANKS!
- Hi, I am checking out Panasonic TH-42PA20U/P model in the US for usage in Europe (particularly Switzerland), does anyone know whether this is possible? The European model is TH-42PA20E. It is much cheaper to get one in the states. Thanks

The 37" version is virtually the same as the 42" version, just smaller. Panasonic is beginning to introduce a new 37" model, so it may be difficult to locate the new or old model while in this transition period.

From your description, it appears as if it may be some settings of the display since you are seeing the same effect on both satellite and DVD playback. I would suggest trying a calibration DVD such as AVIA or Video Essentials. For the absolute best picture, have a certified ISF technican calibrate your plasma.

The Sanyo is very similar to the Panasonic model. Sanyo procures the glass for the plasma from Panasonic and the components inside are Sanyo. So, they are similar but not the same.

JVC and Panasonic are owned by parent Matsushita, and JVC gets the glass from Panasonic but they use their own electronics.

I would suggest using the horizonal adjustment to move the picture slightly over to rid you of the band that is distracting to you.

It is very difficult to compare side by side in the store. Often you do not know the source of the signal, type of cables used and so forth. Often times, stores will adjust some units to have a better picture than others in which they will make more money on the sale.

This may be a result of the MPEG compression since the unit boasts over 1 billion colors and 1024 shade graduations.

The JVC and Panasonic are very similar and would not be concerned with the generation of the unit. The glass for the JVC is sourced from Panasonic. That makes the biggest impact on the differences between units.

If you plan on using the product in Europe, I would highly suggest purchasing the European version. The European version will operate on the PAL system and at 220V. That version will also have warranty coverage in Europe. The US version will only operate at 110V and has an NTSC tuner and US only warranty.

No, it is not true. Sanyo sources the glass from Panasonic, however, the electronics are of Sanyo origin.
